does life always intervene when you're following the wrong path? or is it up to us to notice when things are headed toward disaster?

i just can't believe the universe would allow a good friend of mine to make such a huge mistake. and i don't know if i'm supposed to be the one to try and stop her. i think it will end up costing our friendship if i do.
