the deals on the bus

not feeling so great (emotionally), i took it easy and finished early at the gym this morning, managing to catch the early bus to work. everyone who rides the bus knows that, in general, you can expect to see the same passengers day in and day out, assuming you take the same bus each day. anyway, the early bus is certainly not my regular bus (more like the late, late, i'm supposed to be at work in three minutes and this is a half-hour ride bus), so i didn't see the usual suspects as i flashed my bus pass (the newest item attributed to my savings plan) and looked around for a seat. there was one empty in the very last row (sardine row), so i grabbed it, apologizing to the guy on my left for accidently hitting him with my bag. i noticed his book, his tim horton's cup, and his crooked teeth. at the next stop, another guy gets on and spots the one empty seat left on the bus - between me and the guy on my left. quickly assessing the situation, i realize it would be much more practical if the new guy sat on my right, rather than in between me and the other man. so i shoved over and readjusted myself as he squeezed himself in beside me.

THEN, the second guy looks over at the first guy and recognizes him as a colleague. they exchange good mornings and i figure the conversation is over. but they keep chatting - the first guy passes the second guy a sticker he found inside his book, the kind that will set off an alarm when you walk out of the store unless the cashier remembered to deactivate it for you. so they're talking about this sticker, and suddenly, out of nowhere, i pipe up, "it's like a technologically advanced kick-me sign." now, i don't know how funny that was in actuality, but in context, all three of us found it pretty giggle-worthy. so we're sitting in the back row laughing, and talking about all kinds of things on the way to work.

it helped get me back on the right foot for the rest of the day. thanks sam, thanks sean ;o)

(side note: there was also a very very good-looking guy on the bus this morning. at one point, he asked me if i had a cell phone - he wanted to make a quick call. i shook my head no. i don't know why. i do have a phone and, yes, it was fully charged for once. and i knew he'd been checking me out. my only explanation: my incredibly low self-esteem somehow played a part in this little white lie. i like looking, from a distance, but when it comes to talking to someone i find attractive, i just can't do it.)
